NCT Nearly New Sale, Saturday 12 June 2010, 10.30 am-12 noon |
Please read these guidelines carefully before preparing your goods for the sale. Any queries, please email dundeeNNS@yahoo.co.uk or call 0844 243 6109 (choose option 2).
You must register to sell. Sellers' registration opens two months before the sale date. If you have not already been allocated a seller number for this sale, please complete the form online at dundeefifenct.org.uk. You will be allocated an individual seller number.
If you find after registering that you are not able to sell this time, please contact us as soon as possible so that we may offer your place to somebody else.
NCT sales cannot be held without volunteer helpers. Please contact us in advance if you would like to help, so that we know who to expect and can allocate you a role.
Did you know that all volunteers are entitled to attend the pre-sale sale?
This is an unmissable opportunity to have first pick of the goods on sale. Volunteers are registered on a first-come, first-served basis and you cannot register on the day itself.
If you would like to help, please email us at dundeeNNS@yahoo.co.uk or phone 0844 2436109 (choose option 2).
Whether you are able to come to the sale or not, we would be glad if you could help us with publicity by distributing fliers to other parents and putting up a poster somewhere. The more people who know about the sale, the more likely your goods are to find a buyer!
All items to be sold must be in good condition, and clearly labelled with your seller number and the price.
Please read sections 6-12 below, which give full details of what you can and cannot sell at the sale and how to prepare them.
Please deliver your labelled items to Logie & St John's Church between 8.30-9.30 am on the day of the sale, or on the Friday evening between 8.30-9.30 pm.
With your items, please supply between one and three cardboard boxes, clearly marked with your seller number, so that we can put any unsold goods in them after the sale. Please take away any additional boxes after you have delivered your goods, as we do not have space to store them.
Please also bring your completed seller's form, and a stamped addressed envelope for us to post your cheque to you after the sale.
No items will be accepted after 9.30 am. Please note, if you intend to deliver your items on the Friday, that goods will not be insured overnight.
It will help us arrange the items for sale if you have already sorted any clothing by size, and have separated out toys, equipment and clothing.
To collect your unsold items, please return to Logie & St John's Church between 2.00-2.30 pm All unsold goods must be collected after the sale so please check carefully to make sure you have collected all your items. If you do not return to collect your goods, we will withold your sale proceeds.
After the sale we will sort the price tickets taken at the tills and calculate the amount due to each seller. We will send you a cheque and summary of your sales within two weeks of the sale.
Every effort is made to ensure security at the sale. However, the NCT cannot recompense sellers for items that are lost, damaged or stolen. Careful and secure labelling will usually minimise the risk of losses.
For health and safety reasons we are not able to accept the following for sale:
You are, however, welcome to advertise any of these items on our sale noticeboard (see section 12 below).
If you have been sent a pack by post you will find three sheets of two-part labels included. If you need more, please photocopy a blank sheet. Labels may also be printed from our website, at dundeefifenct.org.uk/labels.php. You may either print off blank labels and fill them in by hand or generate a sheet of labels ready printed with the details of each item.
All items for sale must be priced and clearly marked with your seller‘s number and a rough age guideline (where applicable) using the labels provided. Please complete both sections of the label, but only attach one side of the label to the goods, leaving the other side loose. The second part of the label is for the cashiers to remove and retain at the till point. If both parts of the label are attached this will cause delays at the tills! To secure your labels please use large safety pins for soft or fabric goods and sellotape (not double sided) for equipment and hard toys. If a label falls off, there is no way of allocating the money from its sale nor can it be returned to the owner. If this happens, the item will be sold and funds donated to the NCT.

Age/size is essential for clothing and may be helpful for toys to indicate their suitability.
For your more expensive items you may wish to add a brief description in the space on the right-hand half of the label, in order to help reunite the item with its label if they become separated.
Every item you wish to sell needs a price ticket! If you intend several items to be sold together, please ensure they are securely fastened together so that unlabelled parts are not accidentally brought to the tills.
Please price your items in multiples of 50p, as this makes it easy to add up at the till! For most items, around 25%-40% of the original price is usually appropriate. Items in "as new" condition will fetch higher prices than those which are not. But please be realistic in your pricing--people are coming to this sale looking for a bargain, and however expensive the item was when new it will be unlikely to sell at a high price when buyers have several to choose from. We only sell a very small number of items priced at £50 or above.
For further guidance on pricing and what we will accept for sale, please read on.
There is very strict legislation governing the sale of these items. If you are considering selling a pram, pushchair or buggy, please read this carefully.
Children should be harnessed in at all times and should never be left unattended. The child should be clear of moving parts while making adjustments. This vehicle requires regular maintenance by the user. Overloading, incorrect folding and the use of non-approved accessories may damage or break this vehicle. Read the instructions.
We cannot accept any prams, buggies or pushchairs not meeting all of these conditions. An NCT member will check all prams, buggies and pushchairs brought to the sale and any not meeting the conditions will not be displayed for sale.
Travel systems including a baby car seat: If you wish to sell a travel system this may be placed in the sale but without the car seat. You may attach a note to the travel system to say that a car seat is available but is not included in the price of the system on sale, and giving your contact details so that the buyer can obtain the car seat from you directly.
If you are still unsure whether or not your pram, buggy or pushchair is suitable, please contact us for advice, or place an advertisement on our sale noticeboard instead (see below).
Large items of furniture such as cots are best dismantled so that the buyer can take them away easily, but you may wish to attach a photograph of the assembled item. Please ensure that all fittings are included and will not get lost and make sure that it is clear how many parts constitute the complete item. Please include the manufacturer's instructions if you have them.
If you are bringing an item to the sale in its box, please ensure that it will be easy for a prospective buyer to open the box to examine the item during the sale.
If it is not obvious to the untrained eye what an item of equipment is, please label it to say so, or it is unlikely to sell!
We are very happy to sell washable nappies, but please only bring them if they are in good condition. We would suggest parcelling them up into groups of 10 or fewer, rather than trying to sell a lifetime's supply in one batch.

We can display baby and children's clothes up to 8 years old. They must be clean and in good condition! We always have more clothes than we can sell (especially in baby sizes), so please bring only your best quality items to the sale--items which have been worn by two or more children already, or are stained or getting worn out, are unlikely to find a buyer. Remember that many supermarkets stock children's clothes at incredibly low prices and clothing needs to be priced competitively to sell.
Shoes should only be brought to the sale if they are hardly worn, or are of a type which does not mould itself to the child's foot (e.g. crocs).
All clothing (except for footwear and underwear) should be supplied on hangers. We will have a small number of hangers available before the sale if you find at the last minute you don't have enough, but please supply as many as you can. You may be able to obtain hangers for free through Freecycle or friendly clothing shops, or buy cheap ones from large supermarkets or bargain household shops. Please make sure you attach your price label to the garment rather than the hanger, as items can easily get detached from their hangers!
Small items of the same size, e.g. babygros, T-shirts, matching outfits, may be tied, safety-pinned or bagged and sold together.
We also have a rail for maternity and breastfeeding wear--again please supply hangers where possible, and make sure the clothes are clean and in good condition.

We will accept items for all ages up to around 10 years. Please note that soft toys do not sell well and should only be included if in pristine condition. Anything which has been chewed or scribbled on, has peeling paint, splitting seams or parts missing, is unlikely to sell and may be withdrawn from the sale if we consider it inappropriate. Please make sure that any battery-operated toys are working--and if you include the batteries, our customers will be able to check too before they buy.
We will accept baby and children's books and DVDs, and those relating to pregnancy, birth and parenting. Any titles which fall outside these categories will not be displayed for sale. Please do not bring video tapes as these rarely sell nowadays.
Small books or baby toys may be tied together and sold as a group. All toys should bear the CE or lion mark to show they meet the approved safety standard. Ensure toys with multiple parts are secured to the main body of the toy or parts may be lost.
Outdoor toys usually sell well but please make sure they are clean, complete, in a safe condition, and easily transportable. Large items such as climbing frames or trampolines may be advertised on our sale noticeboard (see below).
Cycles: we are only permitted to sell those classed as "toys", which are defined by the saddle height being less than 635 mm from the ground with tyres fully inflated. This generally includes all trikes and bicycles for pre-school children.

Do you have items which are too big to bring to the sale or which we are not allowed to sell? You are welcome to place an advertisement (up to A4 size) on our sale noticeboard for a charge of £1. Please bring your advert(s) and payment when delivering your other items. Don't forget to include your contact details on the advert for potential buyers to get in touch (tear-off slips are a good idea). A clear photograph of each item will make it more eye-catching.
Whilst every care is taken with goods left at the sale, the NCT cannot be held responsible for any items lost, damaged or stolen, or for any monetary discrepancies that may arise.
If after reading these instructions you have a ny further questions, you can contact the Nearly New Sale team by emailing dundeeNNS@yahoo.co.uk. Alternatively, call them on 0844 2436109 (choose option 2).
